    Rural Heritage Development Initiative

    Central Kentucky gets tourism help
National Trust aims to spotlight region

Headline and Article from the Louisville Courier - Journal:

Yesterday's announcement comes four months after the World Monuments Fund named Central Kentucky's Bluegrass landscape as one of the world's 100 most endangered places.

the National Trust announced that the region will be one of two in the United States targeted in its new Rural Heritage Development Initiative.

The program is designed to increase tourism and the development of locally owned restaurants and stores.

It also will encourage the preservation of barns, rural land-use planning and neighborhood housing revitalization.

The Arkansas Delta, a 15-county agricultural strip along the Mississippi River, is the other targeted region.

    Thanks for posting this.

Anybody have any idea about the National Trust's success in this kind of thing? Beyond the general NTHP stamp that buildings or archaeological sites get, of course. I know that they have several planning-oriented programs out there- anybody worked with them on anything?
