Can any one please explain to me how to prove that a town planning application is "the interest of the public?"
The public interest is broader than individual interests, and broad enough to justify encroaching on assumed individual freedoms or liberties. Common weal is the old term for it. You can also say that anything that will cost an individual in the short term, but save the taxpayers in the long term, is in the public interest.
