I don't know of any case studies per se, but I'd suggest checking out Portland, where they removed a large waterfront street and replaced it with a park / festival ground. I believe you are referring to Baltimore's Inner Harbor, which is also worth a look. There is a good but short article on Portland in Peirce and Guskind's book "Breakthroughs : Recreating the American City"

Im looking for case studies involving waterfront redesign initiatives; particularly ones that promote sustainable transportation. I know somewhere in Maryland, they demolished a freeway to put in a waterfront.
