    Affordable housing affects property values

    Hi,

I'm researching how affordable housing projects affect the property values of existing single family housing. I need references, links, or any information that might lead me to studies that have been conducted.

My hypothesis is that affordable housing does not affect (or diminish) property values. I just need the information to back this up.

    Thanks,

    -Vance

    Affordable Housing Affects Property Values

One source of information is a report entitled "Relationships between Affordable Housing Developments and Neighboring Property Values," by Paul L. Cummings and John D. Landis. Sept. 1993,

University of California, Berkeley, Institute of Urban and Regional Development. For the most part, the study verifies your hypothesis. A line from the conclusion: "...well-designed, well-managed, and well-maintained projects should not affect neighborhood property values, regardless of whether they are affordable or market rate (p. 17)."
