I'm an Architecture student in my final year and currently writing my dissertation about "Architecture & the Body"
The body has always been the standard for design: size, arrangement and proportion have been central issues from Vitruvius to Le Corbusier. In days of old, the designers evolved their own design from bodily PROPORTION.
In contemporary architecture things have changed drammatically. Nowadays, the trend is for designers and architects to generate their design from a certain conception of bodily FUNCTION or ACTIVITY.
What do u think? What other roles has the (human) body played in architecture?
Any comments or ideas would be more than welcome!!!
