I am in the process of collecting information and ideas on the
use of space by marginalised groups. Space in this sense
is public and community space. I am preparing a PhD at
Griffith University, Brisbane Australia within the School
of Environmental Planning. The information I am seeking
relates to planning in multicultural context, obtaining other
than mainstream information in public participation, cultural
mapping techniques for marginalised groups etc. My PhD is
striving to develop an effective consultation methodology
for planners to collect this information and the development of
consultative strategies to involve these groups in the planning
process. The groups i wish to involve in my study are young people,
people of NESB, alternate lifestyles etc. I am also interested
if anyone has information on other cultures and their
processes of community development/consultation in planning
practice. Please contact me with your projects, ideas etc.

Cheers. Jim
