Just Lost A Friend In Iraq [Temp 2]

Well, I got some pretty tough news when I got home after my late night meeting. A good friend of mine, Tony Hernandez, was the crew chief on the chopper that went down in Iraq yesterday. This is the first person I have known that died in a war, and it's a very different feeling. I know his dad is having a really hard time dealing with this since he was his only son.

At least he died doing something he enjoyed. He wanted to be a Marine all through high school, but was too overweight to join right out. He worked his ass off and lost about 30 lbs so he could join and lost another 35 during boot camp. The Marines was the best thing that could have happened to him.

He was due to come home March 1. He had been married for just about a year, but did not have any kids.

If ya'll could say a little prayer for his family, I'd appreciate it.

"Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."

Best wishes to you, SR and to his family. The ultimate sacrifice of his life for this nation will not be forgotten.
You get all squeezed up inside/Like the days were carved in stone/You get all wired up inside/And it's bad to be alone

You can go out, you can take a ride/And when you get out on your own/You get all smoothed out inside/And it's good to be alone

    I'll echo eG's comments.

I am very sorry to hear of your loss, as I am for all of our soldiers. I hope something good comes out of their sacrifices.

You know, I am really, really bad at this condolences stuff. I am much better for letting folks lean on me while bleeding to death and trying to limp to the ER or something. But death doesn't much upset me and ....

I think I will quit while I am behind. This is my ultra-lame attempt to add my support/condolences...for whatever it's worth, which probably ain't much.

I just heard that a 22 y/o marine from the town next door was the crew chief on that chopper. Today would have been his birthday and he was home this summer for his father's funeral. He had orders to return to Hawai in the next week or so.

Without the willing service and sacrifice of your friend, and everyone else whom has ever worn the uniform, the World would be a far, far worse place.

My condolences and a heartfelt, civilian SALUTE!
