Fortunately, the flooding was concentrated primarily in the southwest corner of the state. My brother and sister in law live in that area, but made out OK since they live on the side of a very large hill. The city of Keene was the largest area population wise hit....the small towns were ravaged from everything I've heard.Originally posted by BKM

How does the town go about fixing roads after something like that?

Like I said above, it was concentrated in the SW portion of the state (I live in central NH...we saw a lot of rain, but not nearly as much as SW NH), some areas saw 11 inches of rain in a 24 hour period (about 3 months worth of rain in one day).
A lot of those towns are going to be leaning heavily on the state for emergency funding for repair work for the roads. Guess we know where the $50million surplus from the last state budget is going.....

News here says rain through the weekend for that area.
Remember, when a disaster like this happens, duck and cover. Unless you work for FEMA. Then nevermind....
Dig them back to a stable base, sawcut out the old asphalt, reinstall a new (oversized if you're smart) storm water structure (pipe, box, bridge), infill and compact subgrade, prepare new base... and repave to the sawcut joint!

OOPS you just reminded me to go check the wash out repair in TO. Maybe tomorrow night I'll go see what Finch is like. If they are still working, I'll grab some pictures to illustrate.

Now is the time for swarms of Massachusetts residents to spend lots of money up North during their weekly beer run to NH. If every Boston resident heads up to the border on Sunday and spends all their $$ in NH that day, it will provide revenue for repairs. Head up in the am, leaf peep for awhile, buy all sorts of stuff, get your beer for the week, and head home. Do not drink and drive- wait til ur home before you crack your first beer.
