Thread: Minimum lighting standards?

    Minimum lighting standards?

Does anybody have provisions for minimum lighting standards in their regulations? It has recently become an issue of discussion for us as property owners and citizens express their concerns about safety in commercial and residential parking lots and garages. This was reiterated today after a conversation with one of our police officers. He mentioned that his search through the Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design has resulted in nothing. We have pretty good criteria for maximum lighting, but nothing for minimum. If a business wanted to, they could go all black. Can anybody provide examples of minimum lighting standards that might be used for safety? I have no idea what an ordinance regulating this would even look like. Thanks in advance.

maybe just require a 50% reduction in lights that are on after the close of business

and/or just lighting the sign, the entry points, and stairwells
