Gift Choice - BMG or LOTR

Looking at the upcoming theatre listings, I thought it might be neat to take my nephews to a big show as a gift vs. books, toys or clothes. They are 9, 11, and 13 years old and live in a small town. If you had to choose which would you rather see or as important what would your kids that age want to see - Blue Man Group or the upcoming Lord of the Rings, The Musical?

There is only a minor difference in the cost of tickets (LOTR being about $15 per ticket more expensive).

Blue Man Group is awesome live, I have seen them and Stomp, when it was cool, unless they are into musicals, and at those ages I doubt it, go with BMG

To be honest? Neither. Lord of the Rings is, at best and expressed nicely, excruciatingly detailed, and blue man group is a nightmare incarnate.

Couldn't get tickets to the Vagina Monologues, eh?

I would probably go with LOTR, but I'm honestly not sure a musical is the best idea. Try taking them to Body Worlds!

The idea of body works(real corpses, reshaped and cut into pieces) scares and grosses me out, no thanks.

    Dittos & dittos.

I have not been to BMG yet, but I can only presume that LOTR musical is probably sucky, so go with BMG.

I'm sorry. Is my bias showing?

Let's not be didactic in this profession, because that is a path to disillusion and irrelevancy.

    Six seasons and a movie!

Honestly, I wouldn't be too thrilled to going to either if I was in that age group. My parents used to take me and my sisters to broadway shows when we were those ages, and I hated it. Between the two, I guess I would pick BMG.
