Where did my post count go?

I just had my post count lowered by 500 or so. What gives?

Yeah, I lost about 125 +/-. (Not that it matters to me all that much ... or that I'm counting or anything )

The mods got down to the bottom of it. We don't think you lost any posts.

What happened? Here's what we think - the Random Thoughts thread was duplicated. You saw your inflated post numbers, and thought it was the normal post count. When the second duplicate thread was deleted, your post count returned to the actual normal count.

We weren't able to find a Clubbbbbe celebration for Zoning Goddess, which sort of backs up our thoery.

When you say duplicate... you mean an exact copy or another thread that was like it, but from one of the temporary forums?

Although this does explain how some of the regulars in random thoughts got misteriously high post counts. But I never noticed my post count going up over 100 posts without any explaination....

Please do not change it, I don't seem like much of a slacker now... Makes me feel a little better...

Yeah, I've been on here a long time and never saw my counts jumpt drastically. I've always kept an eye on them and up until today was #5 on the top ten list of Cyburbians. My count was around 5103.

Thanks, RJ and JNA, for finding that thread. RJ was almost at 4900, BTW.

Somebody explain this to me please -

Donk joined Teh Clubbbbbe (5K) 11-29-2005 and has only 5003 in his post count.
ZG joined Teh Clubbbbbe (5K) 12-13-2005 and now has 4608 in her post count.

And I know both have had plenty and much more to say since joining Teh Clubbbbbe (5K) so why the difference ?

    I don't get it ? do you ?

Hypothesis: If the Random Thoughts thread was duplicated and then the ORIGINAL was deleted instead of the duplicate, could it be that the post count did not count the duplicate posts but did count (subtract) the removal of the original posts?

Is the post count in Random Thoughts of folks who are missing posts similar to the amount they appear to be missing?

(EDIT: it's possible that I am also missing posts. I generally take a yawning disinterest in such things, so I can't be sure.)

Let's see, in the random thoughts thread I have nearly 200 posts, and before I had a post count of around 3,775 or so. Today I had 3,617.... So that's like 160 less, so it's not actually the posts I had in the random thoughts thread... talk about weird....

I'm interested in knowing how much posts has RJ lost, given that he has around 900 posts in that thread.

Okay .... I redid the post count, and the posts stayed the same. Let me reindex, re-everything.

No, they didn't stay the same. When I posted earlier in this thread, I showed 4500 and something posts. Now it is up by around 300 posts -- which puts it more in the range of what I think I 'should' have.

Thanks Dan! Now this looks more like it! I would have noticed if my postcount had bumped up quickly, since last year I didn't post much, so 160 posts more would have freaked me up quite a bit... I'd probably have thought that somebody had hacked into my account or something... and I doubt that...

Donk is back to 5,116; ZG is at 5,210. The first recount didn't make a difference, so I ran some other vBulletin re-indexing and re-building scripts; "Update User Titles and Ranks", "Rebuild Thread Information", "Rebuild Forum Information" and "Fix broken user profiles". Let's see if the post counts look more normal to everyone.

Those clubbbbbbbbe post count parties posts do come in handy, don't they?

glad Dan got it fixed. I was about to suggest resetting everyone to zero.

FWIW, I'm re-indexing the search engine now, so search results will be incomplete until later this morning.
