    Parking requirements for schools

I am in the process of revising the parking requirements for schools in our zoning by-law. Currently, public elementary schools require 3 stalls, plus 1 per classroom; secondary schools require 3 stalls per classroom; and, private schools (include both elementary & secondary) require 3 stalls per classroom. As it stands, the parking requirement for a private elementary school is higher than for a public elementary school. Is there any reason a private elementary school would generate more parking demand than a public elementary school?

    Thanks,
    Tanya

For an elementary school, I can only think of one, and that is that a private school might be better staffed than a public school, thus requiring a few more parking spaces.

And private schools most often do not offer the alternative of busses, nor are they traditional neighborhood schools where walking is an option.
