Do you take care of your shoes?

The other day on this thread we were talking about dress shoes. I then realized that some people have high quality leather shoes or boots. I also bet that some people have a shoe care kit or at least have a few items or less.

Do you take care of your shoes? If so what items do you have in your shoe care kit?
Invest in the things today, that provide the returns tomorrow.

You need to stop introducing all these highly controversial threads!

    My shoe kit has:
    polish
    buffing brush
    flannel rag
    edge dressing
    shoe laces
    "shoe goo" (for fixing sneakers)
People will miss that it once meant something to be Southern or Midwestern. It doesn't mean much now, except for the climate. The question, “Where are you from?” doesn't lead to anything odd or interesting. They live somewhere near a Gap store, and what else do you need to know? - Garrison Keillor

I take my nice leather shoes/boots to a get cleaned up and shined. I am pretty anal about not wearing them out in the snow/icemelt. I will carry them in a bag and wear my timberlands to work then change.

I have a shoe maintenance kit, but I rarely use it.
I'm sorry. Is my bias showing?

Ever since I was in the military I have been fanaticle about taking care of my shoes. Also the shoes will last longer thus saving $$$. I even take care of my wifes shoes and my daughters shoes.

My shoe motto is: Take care of your shoes and they will take care of you."

Given my hard-to-fit feet, I have to usually pay more than the average person for footwear, so I feel the need to make them last and look good for as long as possible. i regularly brush them. I use mink oil on my brown leather shoes to keep the leather supple and not dry. I polish my black shoes. My boots get mink oil. I resole them when it is possible.

Why bother when you can always get a new pair?

    Nope

I wear them till the soles peel off, then they go in the trash and I get a new pair....about once every year or so

I go barefoot as much as possible. It is healthier for the feet. When I can't go barefoot, I wear sandals as much as possible (yes, even in February). And I try to buy shoes on steep discount as much as possible so that I can guiltlessly pitch my $3 pair of shoes when they fall apart.

This actually reminded me to stop and get some weatherproofing spray on the way home. I forgot I was out and it is supposed to rain this weekend (shoes are overdue for treatment).

My philsophy, too. I buy inexpensive shoes and toss 'em when their life is over.

See i HATE HATE HATE to buy shoes and am VERY picky so when I find some I like I buy them in brown and black, heck sometimes more than one of each just so I dont have to do it again-then I make em last as long as I can.

This is the lamest thread since that jerk started the "Do you use a shoehorn?" thread

as has been mentioned before, I am a shoe person. I regularily polish them and get them reheeled and soled typically once a year. Looking at my 2 pairs of dress shoes, looks like I need to add another pair to the rotation.

Ages - brown wing tips are turning 10 years old. Have been resoled 10 times, reheeled 15 times any ways

    black oxfords - 6 years old - 6 soles 10 heels

The scary thing about wearing expensive shoes and caring for them, is that I probably spend more on maintenace of my shoes then most people do on shoes.

Ditto...I am the worst, I buy expensive shoes (not crazy expensive, but expensive enough that I should take much better care of them ) and ruin them quickly...I don't know that I have any shoes (that I wear on a regular basis) that are over a year old...just bought the cutest black heels, wore them out the other night, got the heel stuck in a vent, went to pull it out (vent in hand ) and stripped the leather off the heal ...need to learn to take better care!!

no, no, no!!!! no shiny leather for me
And I hate platforms (the ones with the high base in the front of the shoe, for you guys out there that don't know what I am talking about) I was wearing a platform-like show out the night I fell down and hurt my hand (of course I will continue to blame it on the shoes and not the bourbon )
