Historic District
Primarily residential historic district just to the southeast of the CBD. The area closest to the Cape Fear River, along Queen, Church, Ann, and Nun Streets is the wealthiest with huge mansions clinging to the small slope rising up from the river bank. As you move further from the river and cross Third Street and Fifth Avenue (boulevards), the homes become more modest and eventually morph into bungalows, brick ranches, and tin shacks at about Ninth Street.
