Wow. In my Standom today, I ran across this very well-written essay that asks the question: what happens after an economic-social collapse knocks the stuffing out of a society? Sorta like the predictions in Kunstler, and increasing, the mainstream media that modern petro-industrial civilization may not be long for this earth.

Unlike most doomsayers, this author has a very specific, very personal example he can use in his speculations: the total collapse of the Soviet system. A very, very interesting (but long) read): This guy is no ranter-it's a fascinating political thought study.
