Repeal "Ban Single-Hulled Tankers"
A proposal to repeal a previously passed resolution
Category: Repeal
Resolution: #11
Proposed by: Gruenberg
Description: UN Resolution #11: Ban Single-Hulled Tankers (Category: Environmental; Industry Affected: All Businesses) shall be struck out and rendered null and void.
Argument: The United Nations,
REAFFIRMING its commitment to the prevention of pollution and ecological damage,
NOTING UN Resolution #11, "Ban Single-Hulled Tankers", as an early, well-intentioned attempt to tackle the problem of oil leaks,
RETAINING its endorsement on the use of double-hulled tankers,
RECALLING UN Resolution #58, "SPCC Regulation Act", adopted by an overwhelming majority,
OBSERVING overlap in the aims of both resolutions,
RECOGNISING, specifically, that "SPCC Regulation Act" contains the same endorsement of responsible oil management as "Ban Single-Hulled Tankers", and that it takes into account further necessary provisions,
CONSIDERING the statement of "SPCC Regulation Act" that it was intended to act as 'an updated extension' of "Ban Single-Hulled Tankers",
BELIEVING it in the interests of the UN to remove wasteful, duplicating resolutions through the process of repeal,
DECLARING "Ban Single-Hulled Tankers" redundant and unnecessary,
MAINTAINING that nothing in this repeal should be inferred as endorsing irresponsible practices in the oil industry:
REPEALS "Ban Single-Hulled Tankers".
