how many hours do you work per week?

Curious: how many hours do you work per week on average?
    What is your job position?
Do you work for a locality or a private firm?
Do you get comp time if you have a night meeting?
How often do you have to cover night meetings?

Trying to get a hold on work conditions to expect as I gear up my job search.
    TIA

40 regular hours, on weeks with night meetings, add 3-8 hours.

Do you work for a locality or a private firm?
    Local government.

Do you get comp time if you have a night meeting?
Though I'm an exempt, salaried employee, I do get what is called "Administrative Time" at a 1 to 1 basis for night meetings, which can be used for time off.

How often do you have to cover night meetings?
In a typical month, 2 Planning Board meetings, one additional meeting. In a busy month (like this month) I have 8 night meetings (2 Planning Board, 1 Town Council, 1 Heritage Commission, 1 Conservation Commission, and 1 advisory committee meeting).

I have had wildly different answers to these through my planning career. Currently:

    40 or more hours/week

    City Planner

    Local government

No comp time or other compensation for hours worked over 40

    Rare night meetings

no comp time, but if I need to cut out of work for something, I can - I have flexibility
I cover all meetings that relate to planning, and most council meetings too - about 2 to 4 night meetings a week

average of 2 evening meeting per week - so an extra 4-8 hours, depends on the meeting
City Planner - city of 63,000, primarily historic preservation planning
no comp time but if I am late or need to leave a few minutes early its not too big of a deal

I work about 37.5 hours a week (with an additional 2 hours for night meetings a month)

I work in local government as a grunt level Development Planner

We can take the occaisional comp time if we need to get to a doc's appt.

Generally, have two night meetings a month, might extend to 3 if I have a larger workload.
I'm sorry. Is my bias showing?

The ends can justify the means.

Do you get comp time if you have a night meeting?
I'm so low on the totem pole I get OVERTIME.

Streaky, sometimes every week for a month or so; sometime nothing for a couple months. Right now I run the schedule for neighborhood meetings.

I'm assuming you're actually asking how much one "works" rather than works, right?

37.5 is a full week here. 8:30 - 5:00 with an hour for lunch.

How many hours do you work per week on average?
36 average (40 one week, 32 the next).

    What is your job position?
    Manager of Planning Branch

Do you work for a locality or a private firm?
    local municipality

Do you get comp time if you have a night meeting?

I get 1 to 1 comp time off. And oh, I take it off.

How often do you have to cover night meetings?
Night meetings happen anywhere from 1 to 4 a month normally. Municipal plan or Land Use Bylaw updates often kick that up significantly. Gotta love citizen advisory committees.

    40 hours, usually

Senior planner - the older I get the more appropriate that title is

    I work for the county

I do get comp time for night meetings

Since becoming senior planner, I rarely work nights. A work session with the planning board every other month.

    A Non-Planner Checks In

Just for kicks, a non-planner, non-government, regular management (the "real" dark side.....not even planner-related) type dude checks in.....

    How Many Hours Per/Week?
    55-65

    Job Position
    Distribution Center Management

    Who Do You Work For?
    Private firm

    Comp Time?
Yeah, right. But, I can come and go as I please. Since I have an ownership stake in the biz I choose to be there a lot.

    Nights?
I actually help cover for my supervisors when they are on vacation or have something going. Next Monday my 2nd Shift Supervisor has a cub scout event with her son, so I will stay and cover.

Not that I am a nice guy.....I am forcing her to work overtime this weekend for a big national contract job. It all evens out.

how many hours do you work per week on average?

    That all depends

    What is your job position?

    Missionary

Do you work for a locality or a private firm?

    County gov't

Do you get comp time if you have a night meeting?

Yes. But I leave when I want provided my work is complete. After all, I'm the boss. (FWIT, I stayed until 4:00 today; an anomaly for me on a Friday)

How often do you have to cover night meetings?

I work for a county with no night meetings but planning commission sometimes run past 4:00 pm which really cuts into my cocktail hour.
    Annoyingly insensitive

I don't have night meetings either. You see, in Florida we don't take planning seriously enough to discuss it after normal business hours
um... apparently I do to post here on a friday though

40 hours in a nine day 80 hour pay period (every other Friday off)

I'm a long range planner in an outer suburban San Francisco Bay Area suburban town of 100,000. So, don't have Planning Commission or City Council every time, but I do have "other" meetings, like a open space planning Jopint Powers Authority I staff. If I have PC or CC (or both, like next week), I'll have an extra 2-4 hours, depending on the agenda.

No overtimne, as I am a "management" employee, but we have generous "personal leave" and, given my seniority, vacation time, so that doesn't bother me one bit.

I work 40-45 hours per week as a GIS monkey. No night meetings... hell, no meetings at all (not that that's a bad thing).

Normally 37.5 hours, but the occasional night meeting can bring it to 45 or so. IMHO, the more night meetings, the better - I get comp time and a half.

At one job, my weeks got as long as 70 hours, and I was approaching a nervous breakdown.

We have a fairly new administrator and I hear he is really flexable but I have had to much work to find out.

I have been doing 2 night meetings a month, that may increase "Comp Plan"
It is all a matter of perspective!!!

    50-55 hours/week; new job will be 40-45
Planning & Development Director; new job will be Senior Planner (long-range comp & CDBG Program Mgr.)
    Municipal Government; Municipal Government
Unofficially, but I'm too busy to use it; unknown for new job
Night meetings 2-3 times a week; new job only as needed, probably once every two weeks

My current job was very unusual because I was building a department from scratch with very limited financial & people resources (I function as the only planner as well as cover some other stuff not related to planning). I'm also predisposed as a workaholic. I'm getting a raise with the new job and working less with less responsibility. I've got a friend working as a Planner I (generalist) for $33K working 40 hours/week almost on the dot, which sounds like it might be more consistent with the norm.

"Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."
