Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

No. Just some parts wake up faster than others.
Broke parts take a little longer, though.

Spring in northern Maine is Memorial Day weekend - don't plant anything until the kids get out of school in June...

My vote is for some other day. It usually begins the moment it stops being inconsistently warm and cool and just stays warm to moderately hot. This happens as early as late January, but I won't start thinking spring until after Mardi Gras (especially if it's early in the year).

I voted for "Some Other Day." Spring to me begins when the birds start to sing, the flowers bloom and I no longer have to wear a coat or jacket. Down here, spring started about 2-3 weeks ago.

I wait until I see the hotties out in short shorts.

I remember the first warm weekend in college would be a magical, special day where BBQs would be out, folks drinking cheap beer in the front yards of all the rentals houses, and wimmen sunning themselves on the quad (or my school's equivalent to the "Quad")

I am attending my first Opening Day this year as the Rocks play the D-Backs in Denver. Should be fun, and it better be warm!

Amen to that... Mini Skirts are nice too.

I would say when I can shut down the heater for the year, and open the windows at night.

I voted when daylight savings time begins, although we've been having spring-like weather for a couple of weeks now (except for today - it's cold again!).

To me, the change back to daylight savings time signals when life itself can begin again - you can actually do things after work. We spend 3 nights a week at the park playing Ultimate frisbee all summer. It's great - it's our exercise and social life and the kids get to play with their friends too. If I were in charge we would be on daylight savings time all year long.

When I need nothing more than the shirt on my back when outside.
I'm sorry. Is my bias showing?

When visibility in the woods is down to 30 feet. In the winter we can see 200 feet easy. Once spring hits, the cost of surveying triples.

i guess i'd say that when little baby ducks and other baby animals start appearing.

in the north it was when we started to see robins outside.

The visual of a man walking around outside sans anything but a shirt on is enough to ruin my afternoon.

Yeah, I agree with the coat thing. Or maybe when I can finally exchange the winter coat for a spring coat or a sweatshirt.

However, I've always viewed my birthday and then spring break as a jumping-off point when I start thinking about spring.

I don't know and I don't care. As far as I'm concerned March in Florida is paradise. Hopefully April and May will stay as dry as it has been.

Spring is when the first buds appear on the apple tree, when the robin returns, when you can comfortably go outside for the first time wearing only a windbreaker, when the neighborhood ice skating rink returns to a tennis court.

In short, spring has less to do with the calendar than with certain events. In grade school I always thought it strange that the textbooks had pictures of kids flying kites and doing all these 'spring' acitivites in March. Or the old saying "March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb' seldom rang true Heck, on March 30 there was a 50/50 chance you had snow on the ground yet.

People will miss that it once meant something to be Southern or Midwestern. It doesn't mean much now, except for the climate. The question, “Where are you from?” doesn't lead to anything odd or interesting. They live somewhere near a Gap store, and what else do you need to know? - Garrison Keillor
