What would you do if you weren't a white-collar worker?

Some days I envy the blue collar workers and wish I was doing more laborious work. I would probably be working in residential construction. I'd be in alot better shape and wouldn't worry about work after working hours were over.
Then again I could spend time making $1000/week working at home on my computer, or passing chain mail to hundreds of people for $100/forward from Bill Gates and Microsoft.
Based on your skills/hobbies, what would you be doing if you weren't a planner/engineer/surveyor (Matoon)?

Sorry, but a million dollars isn't going to get as much as you may think.
And it's getting smaller with every federal deficit increase.
Maybe 2.5 million? Five would be even better. Of course, if you want to
feel secure, you'd need at least twenty. Depressing, isn't it. Bums me out.

pipefitter storeroom clerk in a shipyard;
wood floor refinisher;
stocker in a grocery store;
wireline rigger trainee in the oilfield;
dishwasher/kitchen steward;
sewer line maintenace worker;
construction/hotel security;
Volunteer Firefighter/EMT;
Volunteer trails construction.

I actuallly chose surveying because it is half labor intensive and half office work. One day, I'm blazing a trail through the woods or pounding stakes on a construction job. And the next, I'm crunching numbers or drafting.

But if I had to do something different, I would probably do custom woodworking. Designing and building custom cabinets, bookshelves, fireplace mantles, etc.

Same here! I love gardening and landscaping, so that would be the first choice.

Actually I could only do that half the year because of the weather, so the other half would be spent refinishing furniture.

I always thought surveying was an interesting profession where you're doing all the things mentioned above and then you dust yourself off and present something before a land use commission. Surveyors often end up acting as semi-attorneys for clients.

I would do antique/classic car restoration. I did my own frame-off restoration in high school with a 1957 MGA and really enjoyed it. British cars particularly interest me because of their unique issues...
