What a nice brush off - I only think of you as a friend.

Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

Are you sure you're not hurt ?
No. Just some parts wake up faster than others.
Broke parts take a little longer, though.

I have the perfect comeback for that. How about a friendly !@#$? I know someone who used that line. He got slapped, but it was worth it.
When did I go from Luke Skywalker to Obi-Wan Kenobi?

When I've had a could-be-romance revert to mere friendship, I'm usually incredibly grateful. From the rear view mirror, it becomes clear that we don't have that much in common, and sometimes don't like each other well enough to be friends. Another way to look at it: you can only have one GF, but you can have a gazillion friends. And your female friends have friends who can be referred to you. Networking.

You gotta get past where you are to get where you want to be. At least you got a rejection letter...

or phrase it even more genteel...."friends, you say? That's wonderful! When can we start enjoying 'benefits'?"

Have not tried any dating webs.
Don't even know or care how to id or ask anyone eligible.
Nobody even asks if I am married, divorced, or single.

She didn't say anything about liking them. Perhaps she lives in mortal fear of them and thinks obsessively about that scene in The Wizard of Oz where the angry trees throw apples at Dorothy and the scarecrow.

What kms said. I think she is unemployed. Most of us don't have time to ponder such things for more than a minute.

Unlike René Descartes who reputedly disappeared upon saying "I think not", I still am present. In my darker moments, I might be the pigment of your imagination.

...and juice cleanses, peanut butter cups, the local co-op, ham, the Wind, Mother Earth, rotting leaves, my compost bin, hate, love, Monopoly rules, not having a tv, discussing Petrarch with the neighborhood squirrels, building, why, interest rates.....

    Oh...the thinks you'll think........indeed!
I'm sorry. Is my bias showing?

Let's not be didactic in this profession, because that is a path to disillusion and irrelevancy.
