    Connecting with fellow urban enthusiasts

    Hello!

I joined Cyburbia today and I am excited to connect with others with similar interests. I graduated from college almost a year ago and am looking for a way to harness my strong interest in and passion for urban planning, smart growth, new urbanism, and the importance of community building. I currently intern in Washington, DC at an environmental NGO, and I am looking into grad schools in planning for 2007.

Jane Jacobs is my hero and role model, and her death has made me realize that it is so important to think and write about cities and share it with others. So, on with the show! Look forward to sharing ideas with all of you!

    Welcome from Chicagoland!!!!
I'm sorry. Is my bias showing?

Let's not be didactic in this profession, because that is a path to disillusion and irrelevancy.

    Welcome from the Hoosier State.

Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

Are you sure you're not hurt ?
No. Just some parts wake up faster than others.
Broke parts take a little longer, though.

    Welcome, from Irving, TX!
"We do not need any other Tutankhamun's tomb with all its treasures. We need context. We need understanding. We need knowledge of historical events to tie them together. We don't know much. Of course we know a lot, but it is context that's missing, not treasures." - Werner Herzog, in Archaeology, March/April 2011

Welcome from NW Ohio. This area has its' own taste of urban.....Toledo.....an old "rustbelt" city, losing population to the suburbs, downtown area that struggles, political arguing about what to do about the strengths and weaknesses of the community, etc.

Probably a whole bunch of other central city names you could plug in instead of Toledo and have the same comments.

We look forward to your comments and thoughts.
