    Data analysis tools

I'm trying to compile a list of the best tools for data compilation and analysis. Please let me know if there's any tool out there that you find particularly useful in your work! Thanks.

Would I sound foolish to say Excel?? It's pretty sweet if you take the time to learn all the tricks. It's also the most universal thing out there. I'm not a planner, but as far as I can tell most people in the public admin/economic development world are at least going to be able to understand/access your data if it's in Excel.

EViews is considered the standard for econometric analysis. Recent eversions of Excel do have quite a good basic stats suite

An inquiring mind and a bit of time.

Software/technology only works and provides answers if you know what you are looking for and understand what the answer is going to be and why.

A map with acetate layovers works just as well as ARC for looking at spatial realtionships, if the viewer knows what they are looking for.
Too lazy to beat myself up for being to lazy to beat myself up for being too lazy to... well you get the point....
