Many of us have read the book, but will be dish out the $8.00 per ticket to see the guy from big run around Europe sporting some version of a intercultural mullet? Rumors have it that some Catholic churches have been urging the parish to boycott the movie, but I have yet to find any.

as a Catholic, I won't see it but not because of a boycott or anything (I don't believe in suppression - we all have the right to be wrong, right?) or that I may not believe it because some of it might not be out of line - I wouldn't be shocked, for example, to find out that Mary Magdaline (sp, sorry) was one of the apostles and/or that they had a relationship - if Jesus was sent down here to be human, isn't that human? but I don't believe they ran away and had a family and all that stuff that dismisses the basis of the Church about the resurrection, blah blah, etc etc...
I'm just not into it as a movie - I saw the trailer when I went to see MI3 (in my funky movie house, see movie house thread) and thought no, not into enough to pay money to see it
Which brings up the question of whether the church should put a similar disclaimer on the bible.Catholic group Opus Dei has told Sony Pictures that putting a disclaimer on the movie stressing it is a work of fiction would be a welcome show of respect toward the Church.

i'll probably Netflix it at some point. i haven't been into seeing movies in theatres lately mostly because of the annoying bozos who frequent the theatres.
i enjoyed the book. i listened to it on tape as i drove across country. i thought it was an interesting concept.

I thought the book was so-so, but I don't regret reading it.
I'll go catch the movie on a matinee... I haven't been to the movies in a while and think that this, at a minimum, will not be a total waste of my time and money. Besides, Hanks is due for a decent movie.
I find all of this talk of boycotting various movies exceedingly entertaining.If you're going to boycott, boycott a movie that is worth it! I propose boycotting all movies starring a musician (I use this term loosely) that thinks they can act (Spears, Lopez, etc.)!

I guessed the twist in the book. Now that I definately know the ending, the climax has to be twice as much of a let down.

BUT...I found the book utterly unreadable-one of the most clunkily written books I've read over the past couple of years. What's wrong with me?

I disliked the book- i read Angels and Demons before i read TDVC and i felt that in comparision TDVC sucked big time.

I didn't read the book because it really didn't interest me. I probably won't go see the movie because I don't think it is worth the $8 and frankly I'm kinda tired of Tom Hanks....the $8 is worth seeing Audrey Tatou though. If I remember to put it in my Netflix queue then I might get around to watching it.

My sister asked me to read Angels and Demons since I had worked at the research lab (CERN) described in the novel. Not the least bit accurate except for a couple of names of the particle accelerators. Complete bunk! So I approached TDVC with the same attitude and was not disappointed in the ability of some one to take one fact and spin a mundane tale from it.
