Guess the Year #13 (portrait edition)

Okay art fans, we'll make this one pretty easy.

People will miss that it once meant something to be Southern or Midwestern. It doesn't mean much now, except for the climate. The question, “Where are you from?” doesn't lead to anything odd or interesting. They live somewhere near a Gap store, and what else do you need to know? - Garrison Keillor

I saw the movie several years ago. Did they actually have this famous painting in the movie?

Just to kill it off before it starts smelling, 1889. Van Gogh self portrait sans-ear, having given it to a prostitute (how sweet).
Reality does not conform to your ideology.

No Matt Damon's character said about the paint-by-number picture in Robin William's office:

"It's also a Winslow Homer rip-off, except you got Whitey uh..rowin the boat there."

Most likely in reference to this Winslow Homer watercolor http://www.nga.gov/feature/homer/homer26.htm

It's one of two he painted with the bandaged ear. He's smoking a pipe in the other one. His last self-portraits of course were painted from his "ear" side lol.

1889 it is. Congratulations. How about doing an architecturally related GTY for your attempt?

But the best lines come right after...

Poor color composition, lousy use of
space. But that **** doesn't really
    concern me.

    What does?

The color here, see how dark it is?
    It's interesting.

I think you're one step away from
    cutting your ear off.
