    Name of your consulting group

do you do your own consulting work on the side of your regular day job? or are you solely a consultant?

how did you come up with the name of your business? something simple like your last name? or did you give it a lot of time and thought?

Check your state requirments for doing business under something other than your name. There may be registration requirments.
    Illinois requirements for surveyors:
Any sole proprietorship conducting or transacting business (under a name other than reflected on the licensee’s license) under an assumed name in accordance with the provisions of the Assumed Business Name Act shall comply with the registration requirements of a professional design firm.
Worth looking into if your just doing a couple of side jobs, you may not want to create a "business" if there are similar regulations for planning in your state.

Few states regulate planners any different than, oh, say hair salons. When I started my business I had to check to see if the name was available, then register it with the state, and then get my FEIN. Nothing more. Of course, that was for a sole proprietorship. If I wanted to form a corporation or LLC or some other business form, there may have been more work involved.

Actually in some provinces hair salons and stylists have more regulation than planners (NB comes to mind).

Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?

And your subconsultant should be Paul Murky of Murky Research, assisted by statistician Marge Inovera.

Do you get a lot of calls trying to hire you as an assassin of planners?

We call ourselves "Two Mites Design Limited". Of course, the Limited on the end
    implies we are an LLC.

Before I formed a corporation I just worked as my own name to avoid spending
the fee to register in whatever county I happened to be working in at the time.
So my company name was just my first and last name.

I spent WAY too much time trying to come up with something unique and creative for my business, a sole proprietorship. Unfortunately, this is not a field that necessarily values "clever," if the names in the membership lists of various organizations are any indication. In the end, I decided I would have to use my own name, but I do have sort of a subtitle which explains what I do.
