    Hello from Northern Ireland!

Greetings from Northern Ireland! I'm a Californa native, educated in Portland OR, and Chicago, working as a planner in Northern Ireland (both UK and Eire). I've called Derry home for 4 years.

I work with Wind Farm environmental statements, development plans and planning appeals (oohhh 3rd party right to appeal). I think about urban space, economic development, and cities.

    Hello, from Irving, TX!

Wind Farms - that's pretty cool. Texas now has the largest percentage of power from wind energy in the US. Or at least, something like that is what Fox News told me the other morning.
"We do not need any other Tutankhamun's tomb with all its treasures. We need context. We need understanding. We need knowledge of historical events to tie them together. We don't know much. Of course we know a lot, but it is context that's missing, not treasures." - Werner Herzog, in Archaeology, March/April 2011

Welcome from the Sunflower State. We have some Wind ourselves. Just getting my regs passed. Went to see our newest field of Wind Turbins two weeks ago. I think they are just Awesome. There are still so many sceptics around.

    Glad you joined in.

Greetings from NW Ohio. Nice to hear of people involved in wind farms. As mentioned, lots of folks not quite seeing wind energy as a positive. Charges of over-stated production numbers, bird flyway issues, etc.

I like wind power. Welcome to Cyburbia. Feel the breeze.....

Wind power is just as controversial here as it is in the US. here people mostly just don't like looking at 'em... but not as many problems with birdies as over there,
I believe because we build small Wind Farms (3-25 turbines). The US, like all things, likes 'em big. The birdies have a harder time avoiding 100 turbines... Then again, we've got EU environmental regs to uphold. And the Kyoto Protocols (maybe you've heard to them...)

Actually I landed in ireland and got a job by sending out my CV (shock, horror, yes this actually worked). I think internationally people are more likely to hire you once you're settled and in the country as opposed to a random CV from far away.

I was living in Portland, OR before this and couldn't get my foot in the planning door what with the insular PSU planning community. So this was a career break for me.

That said the UK is having a lack-of planners crisis. Kind of makes me want to stay here... That and the exchange rate....
