Thread: Favourite Athletes

    Favourite Athletes

Simple - who are your favourite athletes?

    mine would be:
    1. Greg Maddux
    2. Tiger Woods
    3. Kirk Muller (hockey)
    4. Paul O'Neill (Baseball)
    5. Scott Stevens (hockey)

I tend to enjoy the 'red-ass' types - those who play with fire and emotion, and have a temper to match...with the exception of Maddux of course.

    Tom Landry.
The man was the personification of calm and rational. The last legendary example of good sportsmanship. Can anyone think of a coach nowadays that doesn't blow their stack or get into the officials' faces?
People will miss that it once meant something to be Southern or Midwestern. It doesn't mean much now, except for the climate. The question, “Where are you from?” doesn't lead to anything odd or interesting. They live somewhere near a Gap store, and what else do you need to know? - Garrison Keillor

Tony Dungy? I don't think I've seen him get to out of control. But maybe I just haven't watched enough Colts games.

Is a coach really an athlete though?

My favorite athletes? In this order

    Seth Morrison

    LaDainian Tomlinson

    Tiger Woods

Perhaps a technicality, but before he was Dallas' head coach he was a defensive back (All Pro, in fact) for the New York Giants.

I think you have to break into two catagories

    Historical:

    Carl Yazstremski
    Phil Esposito
    Tom Seaver
    Fred Bilitnikov
    Larry Bird

    Current:
    Jose Reyes
    Tiger
    Tiki Barber
    Steve Nash

    Current:
Probably Tiger Woods - he is at the top of his game and plays with emotion without blowing his stack.

    Retired:
Cal Ripkin Jr. - just personifies professionalism, work ethic and sportsmanship. and this is from a non-baseball fan.

Roger Staubach - similar reasons at Ripkin (I also have a ton of admiration for Landry)

"Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."

    In no particular order:

    Albert Pujols
    Ozzie Smith
    Michael Jordan
    Bernard King
    Walter Payton
    Lawrence Taylor
    Kobe Bryant
Dwight Gooden - pre-coke days if there were any
    Vince Coleman
    Art Monk
    Jerry Rice
    Hakeem Olajuwon
    Charles Barkley

    Who?

Nowadays (this may perplex and irritate the guys on the island across the pond), I really like John Terry. He may play for evil right now, but I like his play and the way he carries himself on the pitch.
I'd be more apathetic if I weren't so lethargic.
