    Career Change Planner in NYC

Hello, all! This seems like an interesting group of people/planners to get to know. My background is in the arts, with day jobs in childcare and waitressing, so my new (very new) career in planning is the first time I've looked at a job as more than a way to pay the rent.

At my grad program in NYC, I am very impressed by most of the planning folks I've met. Working with such creative yet pragmatic people on projects of the complexity that most planning problems contain is very exciting to me.

I also realize that the day-to-day life of a planner has all of the mundane irritations of work life that any job does. And, like many students, I am anxious to know what the future holds for me. This site has already given me a nice window into planning practice, so I want to become more involved.

Current interests: public/private partnerships, communicative planning/public participation, urban design, growth management/land use. . .

    See you around!

Welcome from the Hoosier State along the Ohio River.
    Oddball
Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?
    From Kelly's Heroes (1970)

Are you sure you're not hurt ?
No. Just some parts wake up faster than others.
Broke parts take a little longer, though.

    Welcome from Minnesota.
Psychotics are consistently inconsistent. The essence of sanity is to be inconsistently inconsistent.

Greetings from another Hoosier along the Ohio River. Different time zone, though.

Thanks for registering and feel free to jump in (the forums, not the river).

    Hello, from Irving, TX!
"We do not need any other Tutankhamun's tomb with all its treasures. We need context. We need understanding. We need knowledge of historical events to tie them together. We don't know much. Of course we know a lot, but it is context that's missing, not treasures." - Werner Herzog, in Archaeology, March/April 2011

    Welcome from Chicagoland!!!
I'm sorry. Is my bias showing?

Let's not be didactic in this profession, because that is a path to disillusion and irrelevancy.
