DONK - THE CAR Not Teh Cyburbian

Mixing previous threads on what fashionable and cars -

    HEADLINE: Donk My Ride
Article in the NY Times Sunday Magazine:
    http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/17/ma...ne&oref=slogin

    HIGHLIGHT:
any tricked-out boxy ’70s sedan is now routinely called a donk. The key is “really big wheels, wheels that obviously do not fit in the wheel well,” Scotto continues, adding that these days, you really need 24-inch wheels to qualify.

The most striking donks have “themes,” lifted from pop culture — or, surprisingly often, branding.
Have you seen any thing like this on the streets of your fair city ? Can't say that I have.
Are you outragous/serious enough to have one of these ? Not me, not to mention the cost.
    Oddball
Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?
    From Kelly's Heroes (1970)

Are you sure you're not hurt ?
No. Just some parts wake up faster than others.
Broke parts take a little longer, though.

Yep... There's one in town. It's a 1970s era Chevy Caprice (I think) that looks like it has 26's and about a 4" lift. Oh yeah, and a bright purple with metal flake paint job.

"Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."

    Fat Cat

They have been around for a couple of years
The trend in this area is more towards the GM - 70s four door sedans. They can be bought for a few hundred dollars and then with a couple of thousand dollars worth of work, they turn into "Donks"

I have seen it now that I live in SC and laugh every time.

What exactly does donk mean though?

    From the Article:
(One theory about the provenance of the name “donk” is the resemblance of the Impala logo to a donkey; another is that it derives from a slang term for a shapely posterior.)

refering to me it means cool, suave and debonair,

since it is a redneck phenom maybe it means employed, has all his own teeth and can chug a 40 of colt 45.

The imapala logo is of an impala (deer like creature from Africa)
