Working for a development company?

We talk about how the private sector is the “Dark Side” would that make a development company “The Empire”? This past weekend I met the President (and owner) of the development company that did my condo building and is working on several other project in the area. While talking with him and knowing the type of work that they do, I thought to my self “It would be great if this guy had planners on staff.” I check the website today and he doesn’t.

I am sure that much like most development companies, he contracts out the planning services if any are needed, but I was wondering if there are any development companies that have planners on staff? I know that some of them will have Architects or Engineers on staff, so why not planners?

I think there are some other threads here which speak to these points. But certainly many developers have "planners" on staff in project management, entitlement, and other positions. I am one of those and love it.

Do you really think now is a good time to enter the real estate sector? I don't know how things are out west, but the East Coast has been slipping for the past 6 months.

The developer that I talked with yesterday does not do normal subdivision developments. He is more into acquiring old buildings and rehabbing them. All of the residential projects that he has is condo’s or apartments in large scale buildings. (and the Condo Market in Grand Rapids is exploding, they are now going for more than houses in the area)

Even so, as the market levels out, prices drop... (as in on sale)
