    Obtaining licence

    Hi All,

How much is taking AICP helpful in ferforming planning tasks if you already have enough education and experience to do planning.... I am taking one in november but not yet sure about the great benefits of it other than salary increase/ feeling of achievement etc....!! Is it more like for practicing planners than public sector planners?

I am currently in the process of hunting for jobs and I have seen "AICP certification desirable" as a common theme for many positions, both public and private. Like any degree or license, AICP certification (if nothing else) is signal to employers you have some established level of experience and competence. Passing the exam may not make you a better planner but some employers make appreciate the title.

I agree with that. Its main benefit to you will be your marketibility. You won't gain skills you couldn't get by reading a few planning books.
