    My name is Shervin Teimourian.
I am graduated from Tehran University(Iran) at the field of Environmental design(MLA).
And now I am preparing my proposal for PHD degree on the field of Islamic Urban Design.

Welcome from N. Colorado, USA. I have only a minor understanding of the influence of Islamic design on European and "Western" communities and buildings. From my perspective that influence has largely filtered through the Islamic influence in Spain and then Spain's influence on the Americas.

    Hello, from Irving, TX!

Ditto what he said about Islamic influences.
"We do not need any other Tutankhamun's tomb with all its treasures. We need context. We need understanding. We need knowledge of historical events to tie them together. We don't know much. Of course we know a lot, but it is context that's missing, not treasures." - Werner Herzog, in Archaeology, March/April 2011

    Howdy....

When I was a grunt with the US State Dept. in DC, I got a tour of the Saudi Embassy.....treated great of course and ate a very nice meal.....but I was also signed up for the Saudi-Aramco magazine (oil company). The magazine has followed me everywhere I moved since then My point is that one of the main focus points of the magazine is islamic architecture and culture, so I have had some exposure from that standpoint. I have never visited an islamic state. I do really like the architecture that I have seen and examples from other sources. If you have photo's of islamic architecture, please post them.

I for one think it could be the next big thing for starchitects.....someday..in the US that is......

While in Florida, I watched the Hard Rock Casino being built in Hollywood, and was pleased to see some roof architecture that had to be at least influenced by islamic styles. I'm thinking of the dome peaks.

I wonder if EG will greet you??

This brings up an interesting question......
When Y'all get a development proposal that looks like Ned Beaty felt in Deliverance...do you sometimes just say.....Take it north to 'Bama, I'm sure they'll let you do it.....then immediately after saying that spit a big wad a chew on their boots

While I worked in a certain County in Colorado, our statement was to take it to the next County, where we knew they would allow it....

    Welcome to cyburbia!

There was one other fellow on here that was interesting in islamic principles in urban design, but I haven't seen him around here in awhile.

There are a few threads out there though:

But please feel free to start more discussions. I'm sure there is a lot we can all learn from them!
