Songs with a happy beat and depressing lyrics

A couple of days ago, I heard the song "Copacabana" on the radio. I had heard parts of it before in the past and thought the song was talking about an island paradise with fun and dancing. Well, I listened to the whole song and I thought wow! This is one of the most depressing songs I have ever heard! Despite having the good upbeat rhythm, it talks about a former dancer who's lover was killed and she had become a hopeless alcoholic.

What songs have you heard that have a very happy beat and depressing lyrics?

Steely Dan, imho, are the kings of placing depressing and dark stories with sleazy and questionable characters to them alongside a good jazz/funk/pop rhythm

    by example:

    Cousin Dupree
Only a Fool Would Say That
    Hey 19
    Deacon Blues
    The Last Mall

    too many to list, really...

don't forget "Grandma Got Runover by a Reindeer".

not much more depressing that grandma's getting mowed down.

Not a happy beat per se but still beautiful

Yes, I knew the song and saw the video on Utube. Its that song, "ANd you're beautiful" repeated and repeated. Kind of pretty ballad sweet yet not too cloying.?

Well in the video the guy undresses himself down to shorts and then jumps off a cliff into icy water

Bummed, don't like it much anymore

This song should definitely make the "Top 10 Disco Hits With Themes Related to Russian Assasinations" list.
People will miss that it once meant something to be Southern or Midwestern. It doesn't mean much now, except for the climate. The question, “Where are you from?” doesn't lead to anything odd or interesting. They live somewhere near a Gap store, and what else do you need to know? - Garrison Keillor

"Santeria" by Sublime. That song is so pretty and puts me in a good mood, with such mean and sad lyrics.

What about that Sublime song Wrong Way (I think that is what it is called).
You get all squeezed up inside/Like the days were carved in stone/You get all wired up inside/And it's bad to be alone

You can go out, you can take a ride/And when you get out on your own/You get all smoothed out inside/And it's good to be alone

I think just about any Sublime song would qualify. Like Date Rape, for instance.

While I wouldn't call it 'upbeat', Poe's Angry Johnny is a good sing-along song about killing a dude.

No. Just some parts wake up faster than others.
