Has anyone ever approved a variance for a new billboard? We prohibit them and will probably not accept an application for a variance........thanks!

We have denied numerous applications for billboards and granted two in 18 years. Constitutionally, we cannot outlaw them, so there are several places were they meet zoning requirements. We simply don't advertise that fact.

We prohibit them and will probably not accept an application for a variance.....
If the application is complete, how can you refuse to accept it?

When I was working for that county in California, we prohibited off-site signs and limited the size of signs. This resulted in two nonconforming billboards. Florida, on the other hand, is a completely different story. The “outdoor advertising” lobby is very strong here.

I'm expecting two applicantions for variances to the height limit on billboards. Not likely to get staff's recommendation for approval (I know the boss there). Don't know what the planning commission will approve, though. Morons.
