switching from Community Development to Transportation Planning (Public Works)

Greetings. I'm new to Cyburbia. Figured I'd check out the transportation planning forum, as I've recently switched from long-range planning (growth management, etc.) in the Dept. of Community Development in Jefferson County, Washington, to transportation planning in the Dept. of Public Works. So far, so interesting. Anyone have a definition for "visionary transportation planning"?

BTW, I went to graduate school at the Univ. of Oregon. Any planner Ducks out there?

Welcome aboard! For me a visionary transportation planner looks beyond how to just move cars from point A to point B and sees how transportation decisions and street design impacts the quality of life in a neighborhood or a community. A good transporation planner dosen't forget the kids who still walk to school or the elderly without cars or the sight impaired trying to navigate a huge intersection to get to the local drug store or the poor guy in the wheel chair trying to get to the market.

Welcome from the state of OH betwix Cleveland and Toledo, where we have no snow......yet.
Isn't visionary planner a double-negative or something (redundant) like that????
Are you involved with the SRTS (Safe Routes To School) yet?
