Our senator just scheduled an economic and community development roundtable event for July 6th at 4:00pm. Seriously? Friday? Holiday weekend? Ugh.

When other organizations, agencies, non-profits try and get the City to do marketing/PR for programs that they are responsible for. I don't have enough time to do it for my own City, let alone some other program that I'm not running.

Same can be said for 15 minutes late. Yes, I know you were in a meeting, or you hit traffic, or whatever reason, but that is my 15 minutes. You wasted it. You should have planned better if you didn't think you could get here on time. You should have scheduled the meeting later if you didn't think you would get out of your meeting in time.

Folks like the last gentleman to come in are particularly irritating.

    Starts off like this -

    - Hispanic gentleman with his young school age daughter (at 10:00 AM on a Friday, which last I checked, is during standard school hours).

    - Daughter is here for one thing only, to "translate" although it is very clear the gentleman speaks pretty good English. I suspect this is so they can do what they want, and blame it on the language barrier. I also think that the daughter is somehow supposed to persuade me to let them bend the rules a bit..

    - They ask me about subdividing property in a particular area of the county that is essentially low income mobile homes, mostly minorities. I know what he wants to do, subdivide his property and basically run a trailer park, something I really can't stop given our ordinances.

    - We go back and forth, yeah you can divide it as long as 1,2,3 are met. He seems happy.

    - Then the girl says, "Oh yeah, how much do you think this property will cost?". Really? REALLY?

We have these things called cell phone now too, call if you are going to be more than 7 or 8 minutes late and for goodness sakes, apologize when you are late!

Metrics. I know it's necessary, but I spend more time documenting what I'm doing than I do doing it. (Though probably still less than I spend on Cyburbia lately . Back to work!)

This just brings back bad memories. PD and commission chair were habitually late to meetings. Both insisted that meetings start without them but then would force everyone to repeat everything that had been said prior to their arrival. Bad meetings don't improve with repetition.

Holy software problems, batman! I just had to re-enter my time for the entire week 3 times because the system kept eating my entries. Today's time sheet will include 1 hour for "swearing at computer."

Our esteemed mayor's director of housing and economic development is having a hissy fit over a super secret program that was supposed to be announced next week. The press conference was cancelled. Sorry man, it's already a contrived program borne out of a DOJ settlement and you don't get to make the rules. We're all pawns.

Neighboring city's mayor just announced press conference for said super secret program to kick off in his town.

I'm supposed to be the service provider for both cities. My mayor is going to look all kinds of dumb if the other mayor beats him to the punch.

A lot of people said "office romances" make them mad...interesting, I've never worked at an establishment where I didn't date another employee.

I hate coming to work when it's sunny. West coast weather only allows for about 14 sunny days a year, can't those just be my vacay as they come!?

I will give an AMEN to that. There is a point where time demands caused by tracking can actually interfere with performance.
People will miss that it once meant something to be Southern or Midwestern. It doesn't mean much now, except for the climate. The question, “Where are you from?” doesn't lead to anything odd or interesting. They live somewhere near a Gap store, and what else do you need to know? - Garrison Keillor

I know this isn't a new one, but I am so sick of brokers feeding prospective buyers a line of bullshit. I wish the buyers would just come to me in the beginning and I can save them months of nothingness by telling them what will really happen.

My job isn't to get the broker a sale.

The newest one, people who ask me things about other departments....

"Well how much does a septic review cost?"
"Why does the tax department need to know that?"

I do not know, how about asking them? I really hate to bounce people all over, but I'd hate it even more to give them misinformation.

PD informed me that I should let my outside contacts know that I'm going to be out of the office for who knows how long. Really? Thank you, Mr. Wonderful. I was thinking that I was just going to let people wonder where I was and not respond to any inquiries from anyone.

Don't wonder why I'm pissed when you make major changes to something the day is going to Planning Board after you have 3 weeks to make those comments and then act like I've done it wrong the whole time and its no big deal.

A 2 hour meeting that turned into a 5 hour meeting including a housing tour, a project scouting mission, crafting a plan B & C on the fly because someone is being ridiculous about plan A, and an order to produce a list and recon info of city owned vacant lots in a specified area. You wanna GIS map with that too?

The new boss started 2 weeks ago. I've been sorting through papers that the old boss left on the desk. I really wish we had photo-documented this process. The old boss appears to be a hoarder. I found paper-clipped things that weren't necessarily related. I found articles about tv actors, old catalogs, notes, permit applications, pages from permit applications that have no identification and can't be filed, and more.

I can't go to the office tomorrow, so I brought 3 boxes of papers home to sort and organize, if that can even be done. There are papers from 2003 - 2013 in these things that were piled around the desktop. As luck would have it, I found a missing E&S plan that someone called about today. It was submitted in July, 2012, and I still can't believe that I found it.

I have a stack of copermittee applications from 2003 that have never been acknowledged. The assistant manager, who was acting manager, gave me a folder of copermittee applications from 2012 that he should have acknowledged and didn't. I can't do my work because I'm doing his. He comes and goes as he pleases, but the new boss has taken notice.

    I'm embarrassed, frustrated and overwhelmed.

Why yes, I would love to be in charge of the CBDG grant that is supposed to be closed out in 45 days that you have only spent 15% of....because you say that I am better than you at this sort of thing.
