    Internships

I'm a second year undergrad studying urban systems and GIS at McGill. I've been applying to internships all over the place, including everywhere I have family I could stay with as well as here in Montreal. Does anyone have any tips or ideas for finding a summer internship in the field?

I'm in Toronto now and what it sounds like is that in Canadian public sectors the funding allocation for summer students comes really late. But go through the consultant directories or do searches for planning websites and cold-call/email them.

While it would be unpaid, look at volunteering for local boards- park/rec, Main Street, etc. Chances are they would be very fortunate to find someone with access to recent best practices and technology like a student. Get yourself in there and deeply involved and get some projects done for them! This will help your resume very much if you are having a hard time finding something. I speak from experience.

Post your resume on CIP's website for interships, and cross your fingers!
