    Northern UK calling!

    alright there chaps and chapesses?

I'm a planner in Leeds, UK. Currently working for a private consultancy dealing largely with development queries (i.e. client approaches us with a plot of land and asks what he/she can get away with!), where I often see my ethics fly out of the window...

I also have experience of Local Authority planning, with a 14 month stint as a Development Control officer in the north west of England. I have now been in private practice for about 20 months and I've also recently been allowed into the RTPI (the fools!).

Professionally, my interests lie with urban design and public participation in the planning process. I want to make our city centres more fun to experience and move around in, and take a keen interest in lighting schemes, street art/graffiti and the use of new materials/colours in building design (ideally away from corporate grey, brickwork cladding and bloody zinc).

Outside of work, i love to play footy, travel (so far Canada, France, The Netherlands, Thailand, Lithuania, The Czech Republic, Poland, Spain and Greece have been ticked off the list), a fledgling interest in photography, a mild addiction to SimCity 4, curries and live music.

I hope to be an active part of this little community!

    Look after yerselves!

I'm sorry. Is my bias showing?

    Welcome aboard!
People will miss that it once meant something to be Southern or Midwestern. It doesn't mean much now, except for the climate. The question, “Where are you from?” doesn't lead to anything odd or interesting. They live somewhere near a Gap store, and what else do you need to know? - Garrison Keillor

Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

No. Just some parts wake up faster than others.
Broke parts take a little longer, though.

    Welcome!

Wow, all that travel and you have not yet come to see your old convict mates over here in the colony?

Hope you can soon find the balance between your work and your ideologue.

    Hooroo, Mark.

    Cheers everyone!

Mark - plans are afoot to come and see you lot. Hoping to get away, probably next year, for a grand world tour! Plan is at the moment 6 months in SE Asia, then on to Oz for a year or so (hopefully pick up some planning work... ), probably NZ for 6 months, learn Spanish in Oz/NZ then onto South America!

    Hello, from Irving, TX!
"We do not need any other Tutankhamun's tomb with all its treasures. We need context. We need understanding. We need knowledge of historical events to tie them together. We don't know much. Of course we know a lot, but it is context that's missing, not treasures." - Werner Herzog, in Archaeology, March/April 2011
