    Definitive architecture: functional formism

A most interesting paper published on Wikipedia site, Re:

Form follows function - one of the most misunderstood and misinterpreted statements of architectural theory.

Function is not so straightforward to define and of coruse programmatic content changes with time.

Even more difficult: how is form to follow function? For instance, the external pipes and ducts of the Centre Pompidou illustrate function but their form does not follow it since the function of an art museum is not, arguably, to give a superifical lesson in plant engineering and the function if heating ducts is not to be outside and rusting but rather inside and heating.

I find dictums like "ornament is crime" or "less is more", while something I totally disagree with, at least clearly stated. "Form ever follows function". Meh.
