Unusual but visible things made in your metro

What unusual, rare or other offbeat, but highly visible things are made in your metro area?

I'll start it out with a timely story about that most critical thing that is used at the now-underway Big Dance™:

    http://www.postcrescent.com/apps/pbc...586/-1/APCnews

(BTW, 'Mackville, WI' is an unincorporated area just north and northwest of and right outside of the City of Appleton, an area that is likely to become part of Appleton within the next couple of decades due to its bad well water and the proximity of the city's pipes and new water tower and major reservoir).

Talking about the basketball games -

I wonder if they are drinking out of cups made in my fair city:

Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?
    From Kelly's Heroes (1970)

Are you sure you're not hurt ?
No. Just some parts wake up faster than others.
Broke parts take a little longer, though.

I don't know about unusual items made around here, but I know that Neenah, WI which is not too far from Appleton, WI, makes storm sewer covers, since I see them almost everywhere I walk in my neighborhood.

Yea, they make sewer covers (and their frames) of all sorts, along with pretty much anything else out of ductile iron. Business has been so good for them lately that they have just announced a major expansion of their plant on Neenah's southwest side.

Pierce builds their fire trucks in the Appleton area, too, and they also just majorly expanded their facilities. Their parent company Oshkosh Truck (they make *heavy* duty trucks for both civilian and military use and are the USA's #1 military heavy truck builder - they build those distinctive HEMTTs) also just expanded their facilities in nearby Oshkosh, WI.

Seagrave builds their fire trucks in nearby Clintonville, WI.

Also, Miller Electric (they make those familiar blue-cased electric-arc welding units) has been expanding left and right in the Appleton area.

But the high-status basketball floors was one that I didn't know of until I saw that article.

Most of you have seen these around:

Yeah- but our breweries are far better than our coffee!

Jeffboat, America's largest inland shipyard, builds the barges and tows that ply the great rivers. They have done a few ocean-going barges as well.

They trace their roots in this area to the earliest steamboat days. During WWII they built LSTs and minelayers.

Speaking of that, there is a good chance that they'll be wiping up their spills with paper napkins made by SCA Tissue, with their plants located in the Menasha/Neenah, WI area. They make the napkins used by many FF chains and stadium vendors.

Ferrara Pan Candy Company who makes Lemonheads, Red Hots, Boston Baked Beans, etc. Their factory is in Forest Park, IL and I drive by it everyday at the beginning and end of my daily commute.

Love the smell of cooking sugar.
I'm sorry. Is my bias showing?

I just heard there is a dildo factory here. One of the few actual physical products made here in LV. The rest is hype, fantasy, lust, greed...pretty much all of the 7 deadly sins.

    In my planning sphere:

    Cars
    Trucks
    Car Parts
    Rock Stars
    Faygo Pop
    Better Made Chips
    Coney Dogs
    Little Caesers Pizzas
    Dominos Pizzas
    Borders Bookstores

Used to be K-mart Stores too, but Illinois Planner swiped em in our Sears takeover.

    Horseradish and related condiments
Spices (McCormick's apprearing in Aisle 3 near you)
    Oive Oil
    Goetze's Candy
    Everfresh Juices
