    150 Illinois Great Places

    http://www.illinoisgreatplaces.com/
AIA has put this site together as part of their 150 year anniversery. It has sites all across the state and recognizes sites for urban design, historical significance an architecture. There is a lot of information here to sort through.

Interesting. Has a lot of variety. And it seems as care was made to make sure it was geographically balanced. There's a lot of the usual suspects along with some really off-the-wall ones. Like village halls, churches, and train stations? What makes the ones shown more architecturally or historically significant than the many others that are not shown?

Also surprised to see the lack of agricultural buildings, like the Round Barn in Elgin. I think there are also a lot of striking commercial/office/retail buildings in the State that were overlooked.

I thought they did a pretty good job considering there is only 150 places, that really isn't that many. Notice, they do lump many together, like "courthouse square" and Carnegie libraries" but only detail one or two of them.

I have been to two of the sites:

    Fort des Chartes
    University of Illinois Quad
    Oddball
Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

No. Just some parts wake up faster than others.
Broke parts take a little longer, though.

Yeah, I guess it's pretty good, considering there are so many good places in the State and they only picked 150.

    On a side note:
I just went to the Egyptian Theater tonight! I've been to many more of these places as well...the Woodstock Square and Elgin Civic Plaza are among my favorites.
