The North American / United Kingdom Countryside Exchange, which ran from the 1980's through 2005, unfortunately seems to have ended. In the UK, the Exchange was administered by CEI Asociates Ltd. from Manchester, and in the USA by the Glynwood Centre. More than 100 local communities on both sides of the Atlantic have hosted exchange teams, mostly in rural areas and small towns. John Chapman was coordinator of the UK's National Steering Group, which included the Countryside Agency, DEFRA, Scottish Natural Heritage and the Welsh Development Agency. I was a member of two exchanges, one on the Scottish Highland's Black Isle, the other in Northeast Wale's Clwydian Hills. But now, CEI's website is no longer running and the president of Glynwood Center reports no contact with the UK Streering Group since early 2006. This was too good a program to let fall by the wayside, and I'd appreciate knowing what happened from the UK perspective, or better yet, how to get in direct contact with John Chapman or his partner at CEI, Phil Daigle.
