Zoning as a means to obtain optimization of landscape patterns

Zoning has been used by many in forest management and planing to maxmise landscape patterns according to functions . Taking for instance, forest production area, forest experiment area , forest research area , forest recreation area and conseervation area as functional zones [ Chang et al 2006 ], this is argued to be one of the best ways to optimize landscape patterns in the forest .

How suitable and effective is this method when dealing with large forests without clear-cut boundaries ?

    Please can someone assist .

In the US zoning doesn't deal much with timber production. Rather it is the domain of state and federal environmental agencies.
