    Radiant City: movie review

HEADLINE: Life in the Sprawling Suburbs, if You Can Really Call It Living

Blending documentary elements and some dramatic material (you don’t realize which is which until the movie springs its best surprise), “Radiant City” is an acerbic position paper on the cultural damage done by postwar architectural fads. The film unfavorably contrasts early-20th-century suburbs, which were built around shared public spaces and more conducive to pedestrian life, with their postwar successors, which lured inhabitants by promising huge amounts of space and no obligation to care about what happened beyond your property line.
One of Cyburbia's favorite people is featured in this movie.

I can't see this movie being shown in my fair city. Too small of a market ?
Bet ya in a years time it willl be on PBS, then I will watch it, maybe.
Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

Are you sure you're not hurt ?
No. Just some parts wake up faster than others.
Broke parts take a little longer, though.

I'm well aware of the problems of suburban sprawl, but the movie kind of seems like making a documentary showing the South Bronx and presenting it as why urban environments lead to crime and other social problems.

The movie was filmed here in Calgary, even though they sometimes digitally altered things like licence plates to make it look like "anywhere". I saw it with a bunch of co-workers.

    *spoilers follow*

I didn't like the "twist" -- I was believing it was a documentary and to have them say that they were just acting spoiled it for me. I might be alone in thinking that though.
