    Would-be from Hawaii

    Ola one and all;

    Not wanting to bore you all, I'll keep this veeeeeery brief; aimless youth currently residing in Maui, finally dedicating myself to gaining focus(and raising my income a bit) and joining the exciting world of urban planning. Pleasantly surprised to stumble upon cyburbia; would've never ventured that such a community existed.

    Quick question:

    How does one "get started" in the biz? I realize there is forum for students also and I plan to read it sometime in the future, nevertheless any words of wisdom you more seasoned vets can impart would be most appreciated

    Internships..Internships..Internships! It's way to gain valuable real world knowledge on top of the theoretical knowledge you get in school. Also it's a great way to demonstrate your skills and work ethic to potential employers.

    Hello. Learning the lingo and reading every word we post will really get you ahead (or make you realize that we are a little nuts).

    Aloha, from Irving, TX!

    I'm a former military brat, so I've lived in Hawaii. Knowing that, I'd still trade places with you in a heartbeat!

    Internships are a great place to start. My internship lead to a paid, full time position. Yes, It Can Be Done!

Of course we know a lot, but it is context that's missing, not treasures." - Werner Herzog, in Archaeology, March/April 2011
