I miss his 'Jekyll' side, too, but I started to think that his 'Hyde' side was starting to get the best of him when I posted an opinion a year or two ago about, IIRC, the Milwaukee, WI City Council making a bad budgeting decision by voting to extend 'spousal' employee benefits to unmarried couples while in the throes of a big-time deficit and when it wasn't even requested by the city's employee unions - and then he totally ripped into me as though I had personally attacked him. I did not respond in Cyburbia to that attack but thought to myself on the lines of 'Sheesh, settle down, chill out, willya?'

Thanks for keeping the discussion about Chet civil. As you know, since he can't post, he can't defend himself.
Chet always had his "swings", but he usually posted far more often when he was up; it more than made up for the rare post when he was cranky. In recent months, his posting pattern took a 180° turn for the worse. I miss the old Chet, but I think the mods got the feeling that he wasn't going to return, based on his recent posting pattern.

Cyburbia's Axis of Spam: India, PR China, Philippines, Pakistan and Vietnam. There's some legit users from those countries, but unfortunately the spammers far outnumber them. India and China are maybe 50% legit users/50% spammers. The other three: about 90% spammers.

Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

No. Just some parts wake up faster than others.
Broke parts take a little longer, though.

Seeing as we're getting a swarm of Indian spammers:
Why does Cyburbia ban so many people from India and Pakistan?

From the FAQ:
How many spammers try to register on Cyburbia?
15,000 to 20,000 attempts to register on Cyburbia are made every month by spammers and bots. In comparison, about 700 legitimate users register on Cyburbia every month. For every legitimate user that joins Cyburbia, about 25 spammers try to join.
Here's an excerpt from one of our logs.
That's just three hours of activity.

I'm trying an experiment where I'm using country-based DNSBLs (DNS-based Blackhole List) to block certain countries from registering on Cyburbia.
The DBSBLs used should block those in Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Philippines, and Vietnam from registering on Cyburbia. Users in those countries should still be able to view Cyburbia, The few legitimate users in those countries should still be able to log in, along with those who previously registered from other countries who may be visiting.
We might find spammers from the now-blacklisted countries who registered long ago. We think we got most of them, but there may still be a few sleepers in here.
This may or may not work. Stay tuned.

The registration blacklist now includes Ukraine and the People's Republic of China. Sorry, but the many spammers from those countries ruin it for the few who may want to be a part of the Cyburbia community.
