Wow. I'm pretty happy about that one.
You really cherry picked the pictures though, unless I only saw the crap bits...
D'you know what gave it away? Of all things it was the one way system, a veritable labyrinth which i got stuck in several times, i remember going straight ahead on that street and the car barely made it up the hill the picture is taken from...
I'll post a new one at work tomorrow.

Ah okay i'll do it now.
A forlorn place of peace an beauty, but where is it?

Well given your all useless... first clue. Its not in Ireland.![]()
I'm thinking Western Isles-ish, but I've never seen any of the places for real, so I can't put a name to it. That said, take a rough, slightly wiggly line south and it could equally be on the Isle of Man, posssibly the Scilly Isles, etc.
PS When people say remote, I tend to think of St Kilda...
Glorious Technicolor, Breath-Taking CinemaScope and Stereophonic Sound!
I'll get the ball rolling, even though I'm probably well off the mark.
Stranraer?
Whitby?
Any reason for it being taken in the dead of night?!
... My £50 point and click camera underexposes things you sarcy get Harry. But actually, it doesn't look too dark on a decent screen. But it was late afternoon and the clouds were thick.
Its not Whitby. Tranplanner is very close by saying Stranraer, like Stranraer its a port on the west coast...
St Kilda! Haha yeah that would of been a good one, of course no lives there though.
Hmmm...
Ayr?
No. It claims to be the 'road to the western isles' and the railway branch line to the town was used in Harry Potter.
Fort William?
When I read the clue, I was going to say Fort William too.
The Harry Potter description and the reference to the western isles reminded me of a tour that I took in the Scottish highlands in 2003.
Fort William is not that pretty... try the other end of the branch line.
Oh! Oh! Would that be Mallaig, Sir?
If it's my turn again I think we'll end up playing "guess the train station", "guess the locomotive class", or "guess the coach builder" instead of guess the city!
I'll flog this dead horse with glee...

Ooh...uh...hmm...Hereford?
It ain't Hereford, its somewhere with a rail terminus... places its NOT include Bradford, Salford, and Cardiff (yeah i went on Google earth and checked)...
Ooh yeah! Its Norwich!
Oh hah, i just been looking at Norwich in GoogleMaps... they turned the castle into a shopping centre!

I'm disapointed in you TranplannerI wanted to see one of yours.

I know it's in Wales...but I've no clue. And Google Earth imagery is of no help with this one.
Tsk, usless.
Its in north wales. Famous for its slate quarries and Railway.
Then my guess is the Talyllyn Railway - I know it's not the real name of the place, but I haven't been there since I was six, so I think I desreve some lee-way![]()
Glorious Technicolor, Breath-Taking CinemaScope and Stereophonic Sound!
No.
Goodness me.
Its Blenau Ffestiniog.
I nominate Tranplanner.
