Guess the Year #29 (swimsuit edition)

Probably lots of grumbling going on wondering why I didn't pick a year like 1999 instead for swimwear models!
People will miss that it once meant something to be Southern or Midwestern. It doesn't mean much now, except for the climate. The question, “Where are you from?” doesn't lead to anything odd or interesting. They live somewhere near a Gap store, and what else do you need to know? - Garrison Keillor

The year is 1923. I am absolutely positive in this because that's my then 24yo grandmother. Nana never did like fish all that much...

I didn't even notice that! Appears like the unfortunate lass is getting 'the vapors' looking at that fish!

Did you know that Jantzen was founded in my hometown of Portland, Oregon? It was originally a knitting company that hopped onto the fitness craze of the 1930s and revolutionized bathing suits by introducing knit suits....very unlike the long woven bathing costumes of that came before them.

I'll go with 1937. The guys look like they're sharing a smoke. Cigarettes were both fashionable and healthy at the time.

No no no! You're removing that portion of the image from it's proper context. The two gentleman are sharing a little joke. The reasons for the guys' smug/knowing looks and the young lady's expression is that one of them just played the ol' "ventrillofart" joke on the fellow bending over a moment before!

Uh, maybe 1948. I think my grandma looked like that back in her hot years.

    Fat Cat

The 20s usually had swimming caps in the pictures so for no particular reason I would go with 1946

    Definiately, in the 30s - I'll say 1935.
I'm sorry. Is my bias showing?

Those hair styles look to be about 1930.

    HER Grandma.

She has pictures of her with her friends from when she was 18-22, all in little bathing suits with boys in bathing suits at the pool...I call those the "hot years."

Well if i had written in earlier i would have said 30's as well- just because in one of the underground train stations in Sydney they have on the walls old advertising from the era when the underground opened- with is around 20/30's, and one of the ad's is of Jantzen swimming costumes.
