I think Notre Dame is deserving of some disrespect by the way they've been playing the last few years. Didn't they get a record 9th straight bowl game loss last year? I don't think they'll get a chance to try for a 10th.

I was not a Notre Dame fan until Charlie Weiss came along and now I'm a big Irish fan!

and because I have a sense of humor, and it is my alma mater, I will say:

    GO Syracuse ORANGEMEN!

I may be the only realistic ND fan around when I say we're about to embark on a looooong year. Of course, I am a little glad that they began unranked because they have long needed to prove their mettle among the new elite in College FB. Once Charlie Weiss gets all of HIS recruits into the program, they will be "rankable" again and maybe even win a bowl... but it'll take some time.

Regardless, I will be by their side, thick and thin, through the whole season(s)

I'll be at the Penn State - Notre Dame game on Sept. 8. A lot of PSU fans think this is an easy game. I pray the players don't think that. The Irish certainly have issues replacing a lot of people on offense but they have some serious unproven talent on that side of the ball. I think defensively is where they will have trouble b/c they didn't seem to really upgrade there at all and the offense won't be able to bail them out as much. But Weiss is a good coach and he'll have them ready to play.

I think you make a good point. Even though ND hasn't been stellar for a few years, it would be foolish for any team to count them out. They come with a huge fan base and national TV wherever they go.

Boston College got them back on their schedule for the next few years and I hope they don't take it for granted that game will be a W for them considering it's in South Bend.

    Toledo Rockets

The Toledo Rockets have an impressive non-con schedule, with home games against Purdue and Iowa State and a road trip to Kansas.

However.....the big talk here in T-Town is the ongoing investigation of point-shaving. ESPN's web site today has a long, investigative article.

Thankfully, they got it out their system early. Now they can concentrate on fighting their way up to where they should have been ranked and winning the Big Ten. They didn't have a shot at the national title anyway. Not going to look good on Lloyd's resume though.

After a shaky start to the game, the Badgers handily defeated their non-conference opponent (Washington State) today, 42-21, at Madison.

See the shirts the App State kids are wearing now

    Love it,

    Thoughts from week 1:
VT - nice opening ceremony gave me chills to watch. Offense should get better ECU played above adverage. Defense is fine.
OSU - Looked like a highschool team against UGA
    Cal - wow, national contenders?
ND - It'll be a Loooooooong year for the Irish. (Could week three bring a winless UM and ND together?)
My RU - Looking fine 10-2 or 11-1 if we're lucky (need to squeeze a win out of WVU or UL)

That's it for now, on to week 2

No I had not heard that.

Now its 1 to 1, so I guess we need a tie breaker on neutral ground.

The way things are going already, it looks like the Badgers are just going to back into the #1 spot by default.

How sweet was the Michigan loss, eh Lads?

Of course the Irish lost, but at least that makes sense...
My pops and I, the biggest ND fans in Colorado, were watching the "game" last saturday. About midway through the first half we pulled out the Irish schedule and reckoned that if things go the way they have been, ND stands to maybe post an 0-8 record before their competition weakens... Also, there is an ND hater out of the Denver sports talk radio scene that says this will be the year the Irish lose to Navy (last time was during the Kennedy administration)... we'll see I guess.

    Nevertheless, GOIRISH

Also, what happened to Colorado State last Saturday? Man, they blew it big time. I owe a Cyburbia lurker a 6 of beer.

And jeez my Northern Colorado Bears got stomped by Hawaii 63-6

Oh well, there is always this week and ISN'T IT GREAT THAT FOOTBALL IS BACK?

I know I predicted an unexpected loss, but this is just freaking hilarious (coming from a State fan).

I've always been a supporter of Lloyd Carr, but my first thought after the loss was that it was time for him to go. Every other powerhouse team has no problem stomping on lesser foes. But not Michigan. For the most part, they always play to the level of their opponent, and I find that to be Lloyd's main fault. His inability to instill a sense of "We are Michigan and we're going to beat the living s**t out of them!"

Hope this opens up the recruiting lines for Dantonio in East Lansing.

Note to Michigan - if you're going to play a 1-AA team, don't pick the two-time defending national champion. Oh, and if there are two guys lined up over you on a field goal attempt, you're supposed to block the inside rusher...

Notre Dame really could start 0-8. Try picking one QB and sticking with him.

FSU could be pretty good...next year.

    Oh, and UGA rolled.

And Michigan thought they got a bum rap for not playing for the national championship last year...it was good to give them a shot against the 1-AA national champions (I know several ASU people in this neck of the woods).

Tell UGA to be nice to WCU in a couple weeks..please.
