    Hello from Columbia, SC

Hello from sunny, South Carolina. was directed to this site from a lesser quality board by one of your members (thanks Michaelskis!), and this looks like a pretty nice site.

I'm a mechanical engineering, prepping for the PE this fall, but my dad is a Civil engineer, so I used to love playing build-a-town in the sand pile. Architecture and the life of cities, and buildings have always fascinated me, but I was more interested in designing the moving stuff.

Anyway, hope I can contribte something worthwhile.

    Hello, from Irving, TX!
"We do not need any other Tutankhamun's tomb with all its treasures. We need context. We need understanding. We need knowledge of historical events to tie them together. We don't know much. Of course we know a lot, but it is context that's missing, not treasures." - Werner Herzog, in Archaeology, March/April 2011

    Welcome to a better world!

(They are mostly liberal over here, but at least they will engage in meaningful political discussions and as long as the posters do not start personally attacking each other, life is good and suspension is not needed.)
Invest in the things today, that provide the returns tomorrow.

Welcome from the Hoosier State along the Ohio River.

Talk about moving stuff and engineering -
My father was a Marine Engineer - ship repair.
Along the Ohio River we have barges that are pushed by tow boats that go through the lock and dam system.
    Oddball
Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?
    From Kelly's Heroes (1970)

Are you sure you're not hurt ?
No. Just some parts wake up faster than others.
Broke parts take a little longer, though.

I found you a new motto from a sign hanging on their wall…"Drink coffee: do stupid things faster and with more energy"

I don't mind liberals at all. What cheeses me off is the suspending/banning of those with different opinions, which is ironic from a board that supposedly embraces tolerance.

    Welcome from Chicagoland!!!
I'm sorry. Is my bias showing?

Let's not be didactic in this profession, because that is a path to disillusion and irrelevancy.

Welcome to Cyburbia, from this admittedly liberal admin.

Lemme' offer a quote from the top-secret moderator guidebook.

    Political and cultural biases

Moderators should not let political, religious, or cultural orientation or other personal beliefs influence your actions or lack thereof. All messages must be moderated with the same consideration, even if it reflects a viewpoint or ideal you strongly agree or disagree with.

In simpler words, liberal mods shouldn't single out conservative posters and messages for moderator action, and vice versa.

Bashing of political leaders or parties should not take place in Planning and the Built Environment subforums.

    Example:
Bu$h(it) wants AmeriKKKans to drive Hummers and waste precious non-renewable natural resources so he can line the pockets of his Repugnantican buddie$ in Tex-ass - wrong
I disagree with President Bush's stand on energy conservation, because ... - correct

Understand that discussion in the Cyburbia Forums will have a left-leaning slant, because the majority of planning students and professionals are ideologically liberal. Those on all sides of the political spectrum should feel welcome here, though. Minority opinions (excepting obvious trolling, from either side of the ideological spectrum) must not be stifled. Diversity of opinion is a Good Thing.

Long as it is mustard or vinegar based, the rabbi will be down with it

Welcome from an Upstate native in Pennsylvania.

Funny thing, the best "South Carolina style" bbq I have ever eaten was made by a Pittsburgh caterer. Really, it was better than anything Maurice could have ever dream of making.

I don't know what the deal is, but Maurice's BBQ isn't nearly as good as it was back in the early nineties.

Off topic - is it because Maurice decided it was more important to be a representative of white southerner's?

    Besides - Dukes is better.

Off-topic...Shealey's and Sweatman's (south of Holly Hill) blow away Dukes.

How many has Michaelskis brought over from the 'other board?'

hmmm... could be. It stands to reason that the quality of one's product would decline when you put more time and effort in draping it in flags of the 19th Century as you do cooking it.

    Besides - Dukes is better.
Mayonnaise= But I'll agree since Duke's was the only kind we ever had in the 'fridge.

Oddly, no. Sim City seems interesting, but I have no patience for computer games.
